Our Mission

The mission of the Stephen A. Jarislowsky Chair in International Business is to promote and support research, training, and the transfer of knowledge to organizations in the field of international business. Its role is to contribute to the performance of organizations by developing knowledge in international business, organizing training for current and future executives, and offering professional assistance and consultancy services.

The Chair as a Research Centre

Objectives

  • To develop new knowledge of the international business environment and international managerial practices
  • To strategically monitor the evolution of the international business environment
  • To develop the means to help in decision making and management for international enterprises
  • To build a first-class centre of expertise in Canada in the area of international business

Main Activities

  • Carrying out research projects, especially in the areas of international business strategy, intercultural management, country-risk analysis, and the management of the process of internationalizing SMEs
  • Publishing research findings in major international peer-reviewed journals
  • Organizing seminars and other forms of academic activities
  • Facilitating the research activities of doctoral students in international business at the Faculty of Business Administration (FSA) and in international studies at the École supérieure d’études internationales, both at Université Laval
  • Supervising post-doctoral students
  • Promoting and integrating international business research activities at Université Laval
  • Networking with other research centres in Canada and abroad

The Chair as a Training Centre

Objectives

  • To train high-level specialists in international business
  • To meet the specific needs of industries operating in international markets
  • To meet the information needs of the people with regards to globalization and international trade
  • To become a recognized training centre in Canada in the area of international business

Main Activities

  • Supporting the MBA programs in international business and the specializations at the bachelor’s level on international business at FSA ULaval, by organizing various activities
  • Providing training in international business for managers
  • Participating in training offered by other institutions
  • Organizing and supporting student activities in the area of international business

The Chair as a Service Centre

Objectives

  • To transfer knowledge to enterprises in Québec and elsewhere in Canada
  • To raise awareness among individuals and enterprises on the new global economic reality
  • To provide various services to the local community
  • To become a key partner in Canadian business communities

Main Activities

  • Disseminating the Chair’s research findings through publication in peer-reviewed and professional journals
  • Publishing, on the Chair’s website, a thematic newsletter on the strategic management of international enterprises
  • Creating and organizing an annual seminar with the title “Doing Business Abroad” for businesspeople
  • Collaborating with the media
  • Providing assistance and consultancy services to enterprises and organizations
